Cougar Painting’s history dates back to rural Alberta in the 1960’s where founder Dan Lebsack began his painting career while living on the family farm near Viking. He followed in his father’s footsteps and supplemented the family farm income by painting for the Alberta Wheat Pool and farmers across northeast Alberta.
Upon moving to Calgary in 1972, Dan earned his Commercial Pilot’s License but due to the economic downturn and a shortage of aviation jobs, he decided to return to his previous work as a contract painter. He worked for Morrison Homes and Paragon Homes before launching out on his own. With fellow aviation pilot Don Huska, they formed D & D Painting and were kept busy with interior residential painting for numerous new homebuilders.
In January 1985, due to increasing business and the need to expand, the two partners decided to each form their own company and Cougar Painting Ltd. was born. Dan decided to change his focus from new home construction to providing top quality professional painting to residential homeowners primarily in NW Calgary. He was rewarded by seeing his company grow over the years with virtually no advertising due to an amazingly high rate of referrals by his customers to their friends and family.
In 2005 his oldest son Rob joined the company and all painting continues to be done by this father/son duo. Dan has found that most people prefer to have experienced painters who actually own the company working inside their homes rather than a crew of hourly workers. Dan is out-going and sociable and enjoys the opportunity to meet with clients to discuss their home painting needs. He finds it fulfilling to work in a field that he has always enjoyed and to see his clients excitement as their homes are transformed by the magic that new colors bring to a home setting.
